Chloe is a very special cat who suffers from hind ʟɪᴍʙ ᴘᴀʀᴀʟʏsɪs. Though the odds were stacked against her, she never allowed her ᴅɪsᴀʙɪʟɪᴛʏ to dull her shine!
She was brought in to see me at once: after examining her carefully, I explained to her owners that she had suffered a sᴇʀɪᴏᴜs sᴘɪɴᴀʟ injury.
To determine the exact severity of her injuries, I took a series of X-ray photos. When close-up views were acquired of one problematic location on the initial survey radiograph, a little but very substantial abnormality was discovered.. She had ꜰʀᴀᴄᴛᴜʀᴇd one of the bones of her spine. Despite this ꜰʀᴀᴄᴛᴜʀᴇ, she had been lucky, and the alignment of her spine had not been disturbed.
When I returned Topsy to her cage, she dragged herself into her litter tray and passed ᴜʀɪɴᴇ on her own. This was an excellent sign, since it meant that her brain was able to send voluntary messages to her bladder. It was another sign of continued functioning of at least part of her spinal cord.
At this stage, there a ninety per cent probability that Topsy would improve with simple rest and time. If we could confine her to a cage for several weeks, there was a good chance that the broken piece of bone in her back would gradually weld back into place, without the need for surgery. We would need to monitor her nerve function very carefully, but with continued luck, Topsy would be walking again within a month.
She gave her a yoga mat to crawl around on, and a box to slide in, and a little crown, because she is a tiny kitten princess.
“I convinced myself that, even with her physical limitations and ᴛʀᴀᴜᴍᴀᴛɪᴄ history, Chloe might still be able to have a rich, full feline life.” Hannah said
And Kitten Lady wasn’t giving up. She took Chloe to four different specialists and put her on a barrage of medications and alternate therapies, including cold-laser therapy, red-light laser therapy, NSAIDs, PT, Prazosin, ᴀᴄᴜᴘᴜɴᴄᴛᴜʀᴇ, and Assisi Loop therapy.
And then, suddenly: a miracle. Chloe’s first ᴀᴄᴜᴘᴜɴᴄᴛᴜʀᴇ experience exceeded our wildest expectations, She began to kick her legs, move her tail and stand up.
Now a Chloe’s ability to thrive no matter her challenges is truly impressive and is an example we can all learn from!
