Taking in a homeless animal requires a big and noble heart, but what a family in Canada did with a sick cat about to give birth took human kindness to the next level.
When a black and white kitten wandered the streets of Dundas, Ontario, Canada, looking for a shelter to give birth to her babies, fate put her in the right place for kind-hearted humans to see her and decide to act.
The feline looked emaciated, surely tired of abandonment and of not finding a safe and warm place to receive her babies. The infected yagas that covered her chest and neck didn’t look good at all either.
When her rescuers saw the suffering of the poor animal, they made the most noble decision and took her home, knowing that the future mother would need medical attention and that, when giving birth, the cat family would require a lot of care.
However, they welcomed her and began to assist her. They helped her heal and celebrated the birth of five healthy kittens of the most beautiful colors.
Oreo, as the mother cat was nicknamed, instantly changed her countenance and soon became strong and happy, but the time had also come for these good people to ask for help.
When they contacted the local rescue center, Salty Animal Rescue , hoping the family of six could find good forever homes, they agreed to shelter them and a new story began for the cats and their humans as well.
“Life still wasn’t easy for us right now, but after receiving a message about a stray from Dundas giving birth on the anniversary of our mother’s passing, I knew I couldn’t say no,” Karly and Katelyn Saltarski, co-founders of Salty Animal Rescue ,
The rescue center has limited space, so they were not receiving animals for adoption, but this case especially touched their hearts and they gave Oreo and his family a place.
“Oreo and her babies will no longer have to live on the streets ,” the shelter announced , thanking her caregivers “for helping her have her babies in a warm and safe place and for trusting us to continue caring for them until they are dead.” find their forever home.
And he added: “They have made me realize that helping animals is my vocation.”
The kittens, who gained a large following through this network of kindness, were given cute names thanks to the help of their keepers: Griswold, Clara, Tinsel, Juniper and Noel.
Oreo and the five kittens spent almost 3 months at the shelter, growing, getting stronger and learning all the skills to be good adoptive kids.
“Mama Oreo is doing an amazing job raising her babies and continues to be the sweetest girl. She became best friends with the resident dog, Mama Nood, and happily shares her babies with her. The kittens show their personalities more every day,” she updated the shelter, advancing that they were preparing for adoption.
After a lot of support from the entire animal-loving community, Oreo and her kittens were formally adopted and the shelter announced with great excitement:
“Oreo’s life has been changed forever and she will never have to do the hard work of raising kittens again. Thank you to all of our donors and supporters for making this happen!”
